You'll leave with a 3-day routine that tests three hooks on strangers before your followers ever see the video, so only the winner reaches your main feed.
Posting one version and hoping it works is a coin flip. Instagram's trial reels show a video to non-followers only. Your followers never see the losing versions, and you get real retention data from real strangers. That's a free test on every video.
Step 1: Day 0, post three hooks
Make one video and put three different hooks on it (Lesson 4). Post all three as trial reels.
Step 2: Day 1, recut the winner
Open Insights on the version with the best skip rate and watch time. Find the second where people drop off. Recut that spot, and post 2 new variations as trial reels.
Change one thing per variation:
Where viewers drop
What to change
0-3 seconds
Swap the hook
In the middle
Cut that beat
Just before the CTA
Move the CTA earlier
Step 3: Day 2, share the winner
Share the best trial reel to your followers. Use the share option on the trial reel itself instead of uploading it again, so it keeps the views it already has.
The prompt
Here are 3 versions of my video, posted as trial reels, with their Insights after
24 hours (skip rate, average watch time, retention graph described second by second):
[paste]. My account's usual numbers: [skip rate, avg watch time].
Which version won against my own average, not general benchmarks? Where exactly do
viewers drop off in the winner? Suggest 2 new variations that each change only one
thing: the hook, a cut in the middle, or the CTA position.
Checklist
Three hooks, three different formulas, same body.
All three posted as trial reels, not to followers.
You judged against your own average, not someone else's benchmarks.
Each new variation changes exactly one thing.
The winner was shared from the trial reel, not re-uploaded.
Every version is logged in your tracking sheet (Lesson 9).
Example
Day 0: hook A ("3 edits that doubled my watch time"), hook B ("Stop using jump cuts"), hook C ("I edited 200 Reels wrong"). Day 1: B has the best skip rate but drops at second 9, during a slow example. Cut the example, and post B with the cut plus B with the CTA moved earlier. Day 2: the cut version wins, so share it to followers.
